The restyled and enlarged S40 was launched in 1962, now that the Corona had taken the smaller end of the market, and it introduced the Custom model. Its grille resembled that of the 1960 Imperial Crown, showing Toyota's wish for the car to be a large, comfortable sedan. This was the first model year of the Toyota Crown (second generation, S40), 1962 to 1966, which took over from the Toyota Crown (first generation, RS to S30); the 1963 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Crown run from 1955 to 2026.
