1973 Toyota Celica

Automobiles

In 1973 Toyota coined the term liftback to describe the Celica fastback hatchback, which went on sale in Japan in April 1973. In North America the A40 automatic transmission became an option on ST and LT models starting in the 1973 model year, and the tri color taillights with the bubble style arrived. It was model year 4 of 7 in the Toyota Celica (first generation, A20 and A30), 1970 to 1976, coming after the 1972 model year and before the 1974 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Celica run from 1970 to 2006.
