Toyota Camry (fourth generation, XV20)

Automobiles

The XV20 arrived in Japan in December 1996 as the Camry Gracia and in the United States in September 1996 for the 1997 model year. Its development ran under a cost cutting pressure because of the strong yen, so it carried slightly less content than the car before it. The sedan was joined by a coupe in 1998 and a convertible in 1999 that were later given their own Solara name, and the wagon was never sold in North America. A mild facelift came in August 1999 for 2000, production started in Thailand and Indonesia in 1999, and in Japan a Daihatsu badged twin called the Altis appeared in 2000.
