The sixth generation was released in February 1999. The 4WD Dias is now only offered with a three speed automatic transmission, with the supercharger optioned engine power output increased to 58 PS. Carburetors are no longer used on the Subaru EN engine for the entire product line, and the EF engine was no longer manufactured. The Sambar has used a rear engine, rear wheel drive layout with body on frame rather than unibody construction.
