In spite of strong protests from Sambar fans, Subaru ended production of kei vehicles at the end of fiscal year 2011, with the final day of production on 29 February 2012. The seventh generation of the Sambar truck was introduced to Japan on 2 April 2012 as a badge engineered Daihatsu Hijet Van and Truck. In April 2008 Fuji Heavy Industries had officially announced that they would gradually pull out of the kei class as a result of the investment by Toyota. Its model years run from 2012 to 2013.
