The Sambar of 2013 was in its second year of the seventh generation, a badge engineered Daihatsu Hijet Van and Truck sold in Japan by Subaru. Subaru had ended its own kei production in February 2012. The Sambar truck would be discontinued and updated to the S500 Hijet generation in 2014, following the Dias Wagon, discontinued in early 2020. The Sambar was the second Kei truck, after the Kurogane, and was the last Kei compliant vehicle to use a rear engine, rear drive layout.
