The third generation Forester was introduced at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October. It was available in Europe from 2008 with either the 2.0 liter EJ20 gasoline engine of 150 horsepower with the active valve control system, matched to a five speed manual or an automatic. The Forester XTI concept was unveiled at the 2008 SEMA Show. The new model added 3.5 inches to the wheelbase, improving interior space and cargo room, and its ground clearance was 8.9 inches.
