The 1979 Toronado was substantially downsized, losing nearly 1,000 pounds and almost 16 inches in length. Reflecting its 206 inch length and 114 inch wheelbase, it came equipped with the smaller Oldsmobile 350 cubic inch V8, and independent rear suspension designed by Cadillac engineers was adopted, which helped increase usable rear seat and trunk space in the smaller body. The three speed Turbo Hydra Matic was standard equipment from 1979 to 1981.
