The fourth generation Spyder convertible Eclipse was released for the 2007 model year at the North American International Auto Show, in GS Spyder and GT Spyder trims. Ongoing recalls affected the 2005 to 2007 models, including a brake booster problem. The Eclipse of 2007 was a front wheel drive sport compact with the GT's 3.8 liter MIVEC V6 engine, built in Illinois, and the second year of the fourth generation. The Mitsubishi Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row.
