A restyled Eclipse was unveiled at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, with the GT using the 3.8 liter MIVEC V6 engine. A recall on 9 September 2008 covered certain 2005 to 2007 vehicles with an improper fuel tank. The fourth generation was in its third year, built at Normal, Illinois, as a front wheel drive sport coupe with the PS platform of the Galant. In 2017 Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover called the Eclipse Cross.
