For 1986 a central high mounted stop light was integrated into the lower rear wing of the XR4Ti, windows now rolled down below the sill edge, the driver's side wiper airfoil was dropped, the turbocharger outlet tube became smooth, and the heater core was upgraded as a late year change. Ford projected sales of 16,000 to 20,000 units per year, which for the first two years came close with over 25,000 sold. The XR4Ti was a version of the European Ford Sierra XR4i adapted to United States regulations.
