The second generation Mazda6 had its premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007 and was sold from 2008. It rode on a modified version of the first generation chassis, which Ford also used as its CD3 platform, and kept the sedan, hatchback and wagon bodies. Journalists praised the improved electrically assisted steering, and the hatchback beat the Ford Mondeo for luggage space. North America got a wider and longer sedan only version for the 2009 model year, with a 2.5 liter four and a 3.7 liter V6. Its model years run from 2008 to 2012.
