The second generation Mazda6 was in its first full year on sale after its Frankfurt premiere, still offered as a sedan, a hatchback and a wagon outside North America. It rode on a modified version of the first generation chassis, which Ford also used as its CD3 platform. A touring car team used the Mazda6 in the KONI Challenge series for the last time in 2008, and a later airbag recall in China covered Mazdas made from September 2008 onward.
