The Hofu plant in Yamaguchi stopped building the first generation Mazda6 for international markets in August 2007, and the second generation had its premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The Mazdaspeed6 was revised for 2007 to 270 horsepower in North America, and Mazda won its first manufacturers championship in the touring car class that year. Australia's Carsales gave the car its People's Choice award for the class in December.
