A mainly cosmetic facelift came to the Mazda3 in early 2008, with new bumpers, wheels and body colors, a stiffened chassis and better interior materials, and the five speed automatic became standard on 2.0 liter front drive cars in Japan. In the United States the i Touring was replaced by the i Touring Value, and a Sport GX hatchback with the 2.0 liter engine joined the range. Japanese production of this generation ended in November 2008.
