The RX-8 was a single generation sports car, the direct successor to the RX-7, first shown at the North American International Auto Show in 2001 and built from 2003 to 2012. Management approved it on the condition that it have four doors, so it was a four seat coupe with small rear freestyle doors. Its Renesis two rotor Wankel engine made 189 to 237 horsepower, and the car was facelifted for the 2009 model year with the Renesis II engine. Its model years run from 2003 to 2012.
