By October 2006 the RX-8 had won 37 international motoring awards. In December 2006 a new Mazdaspeed RX-8 became available exclusively in Japan, and in the United Kingdom the Evolve, a special edition limited to 500 cars, was launched. The 2006 automatic model was given a second oil cooler, as was standard in the manual. Mazda also began leasing a dual fuel RX-8 running on hydrogen and gasoline to customers in Japan.
