The first generation Demio of 2006 was in its fourth year of production at the Colombia plant of Mazda, a Colombian market model of the DW platform of 1996, which sold in Japan only until 2002 and which Ford sold in Japan as the Festiva Mini Wagon. The third generation Demio, which was to appear in early 2007, would replace it at the Colombian plant, as the DE model, at the end of 2007. The name Demio is derived from the Latin meus, to show possession, which in many Romance languages has become mio.
