In the United States the facelift of the second generation 626 appeared for the 1981 model year, with more black trim including the bumpers, and a new grille and headlights. A new Luxury model was added with ample equipment, and another minor update changed the wheel designs for the Super Deluxe in Australia. It was the last full year of the rear wheel drive Capella, which would be succeeded by a front wheel drive car in 1982.
