For 1958 the Continental returned as a flagship model line for Ford Motor Company, the Mark III, repositioned to compete with the Cadillac Eldorado and Imperial LeBaron. To reach a 6,000 dollar price, about 40 percent below the Mark II, it gave up hand assembly and shared production with Lincoln at the new Wixom plant. It kept the power operated locks and windows of the Mark II, brought back air conditioning, and offered an FM radio tuner and an Auto Lube system as options.
