The Mark II had a nearly flat hood and decklid, no tailfins and no pontoon fenders, and limited chrome to the window trim, grille and bumpers, in a style closer to a Mercedes-Benz 300 or Rolls-Royce. The Continental spare tire returned as a styling feature, now integrated into the decklid, with a four pointed star emblem. In total 2,996 Mark IIs were built, including two prototype convertibles, and Ford lost nearly 1,000 dollars on each, so the car was discontinued after 1957.
