The sixth generation Continental was offered only for 1980, in an extensive downsizing of Lincoln that cut curb weight sharply and delivered the best year to year fuel economy improvement, 38 percent, in Ford history. It was among the most technologically advanced Fords of its day, with a standard 4 speed overdrive automatic, electronic fuel injection with computer engine management, a digital instrument panel and a trip computer. It was released again as the Town Car for 1981. The year page gives its details.
