Land Rover Discovery Series I

Automobiles

Shown first at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Series I Discovery reached British showrooms that October, developed under the code name Project Jay. It was built on the Range Rover's chassis, suspension and four-wheel-drive system but priced for a wider family market, and it was the first Land Rover positioned as a family car. It started as a three-door, gained a five-door body in 1990, and was the only Discovery sold as a three-door. Engines were the 200Tdi diesel and the Rover V8, replaced in 1994 by the 300Tdi and a 3.9-litre V8.
