The second generation, internally the C104, was a significant departure after American Motors took over Jeep. The Jeepster part of the name was dropped, it gained a conventional full width egg crate grille resembling the larger Chevrolet K5 Blazer, a longer wheelbase and AMC six cylinder or V8 engines, plus a stronger frame, wider tread and a larger rear mounted fuel tank. Its model years run from 1972 to 1973.
