The Canadian Army took delivery of 195 militarized CJ-7s in 1985, and they were put into service as a stop gap measure between the retirement of the M38A1 and the introduction of the Bombardier Iltis. The CJ-7 was by then in its tenth year of production, one of the most popular Jeeps ever made, with its removable doors and top, and the CJ line it belonged to would end the next year with the CJ-7 replaced by the Wrangler.
