The second generation was introduced as a three door hatchback and a four door sedan, also designed at General Motors' Design Center and built on the Suzuki developed M platform with Suzuki drivetrains. These models were marketed only in North America, carrying the nameplates Geo Metro, Pontiac Firefly and Suzuki Swift, and sourced only from CAMI Automotive. The Geo Metro sedan was not available from Chevrolet dealers in the United States until 1995.
