In August 1977 a facelifted Transit, codenamed the Transit 1978 and a half and usually called the Mark II, debuted with a restyled, longer nose section that could properly accommodate an in line engine in place of the Essex and Cologne V4s, using the Pinto engine. The change ended the twelve years of largely unaltered production. Hyundai in South Korea built a Transit based van from 1977 to 1981. The Mark I body had by then been in production for twelve years.
