The new 12M P4 for 1962 brought the V4 engine, a Ford design, to the Taunus, in a completely new car with front wheel drive based on the Cardinal project. It had 1.2 litre and 1.5 litre engines and was offered as a two or four door sedan, a coupe, a wagon and a sedan delivery. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford.
