In 2018 the S-Max petrol range had a 1.5 litre SCTi EcoBoost of 160 horsepower and a 2.0 litre SCTi of 240 horsepower, the latter only with the six speed Ford automatic gearbox. The diesels averaged over fifty miles per gallon, and the car was built for the European market. The S-Max was a Ford designed mid size people carrier that shared parts with the Galaxy and the Mondeo, and it was sold only in Europe. Ford marketed it both as a multi purpose vehicle and as a sports activity vehicle, aimed at buyers who wanted space without giving up driving fun.
