The Pilot of 1949 was built with six volt Lucas electrics, including the starter and generator, and had a three speed gearbox changed by a column lever. Its Marles steering box used an hour glass cam and a double roller, and its front brakes were hydraulic, with cable operated rears. It was built by Ford UK and was the first large post war car of the company in Britain. The Pilot was a British Ford of the late 1940s with a V8 engine and an old fashioned chassis.
