The Pilot of 1948 was mostly a four door saloon based on the 1935 American Model 48, though estate shooting brake versions with a wooden body were also built. The chromed brass front windscreen could open for ventilation, and leather upholstery and Bakelite trim were standard. The Pilot was a British Ford of the late 1940s with a V8 engine and an old fashioned chassis. It was built by Ford UK and was the first large post war car of the company in Britain.
