In 1992 the KH Laser was sold in Australia in L, GL and Ghia trims with a choice of engines from 1.3 to 1.8 litres, the TX3 sat at the top of the range, and in Indonesia it was assembled from kits as a Sonic, Gala or Champ. In Japan it remained the best selling Laser. The Laser was a Ford badged version of the Mazda Familia, and it was one of the smaller cars in the Ford range of that period. Buyers in Australia and New Zealand often did not realise the Ford was based on the Mazda 323.
