The Mark V Escort arrived in September 1990 with an all new body and a simpler torsion beam rear suspension in place of the Mark III's independent layout. Early cars carried over the 1.3 liter HCS, 1.4 and 1.6 liter CVH petrol and 1.8 liter diesel engines, and drag fell to a coefficient of 0.35. It was criticized by the motoring press for its styling, ride and handling, and Ford facelifted it in September 1992. The Zetec 16 valve engine, the RS2000 and the RS Cosworth belong to this generation. Its model years run from 1990 to 1994.
