For 1997 the E Series had a revision of its engine lineup, keeping only the 7.3 litre diesel, with a 4.2 litre V6 in place of the inline six and a 6.8 litre V10 in place of the 7.5 litre V8. Its exterior and interior were revised, with an oval grille like the Explorer and the F 150. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis.
