The 1956 Firedome V8 received another boost in horsepower, to 230, an increase of 45 horsepower over the 1955 car, which kept the line competitive at entry level against the Fireflite and Adventurer above it. The Firedome remained DeSoto's lower priced V8 series, available alongside the new limited production Adventurer sub series of the Fireflite that DeSoto introduced in 1956, with the Firedome running a Hemi V8 of its own that year.
