The Elite was Ford's mid size personal luxury coupe of the mid 1970s, a junior companion to the Thunderbird built on the Torino and styled to look like it. It was introduced in February 1974 as the Gran Torino Elite and became simply the Elite for 1975 and 1976. Ford dropped the name when the Thunderbird itself moved onto the Torino based platform for 1977.
