The F39 was the first X2, previewed as the BMW Concept X2 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and unveiled in production form on 25 October 2017, with sales starting in March 2018. It was based on the same UKL2 front wheel drive architecture as the X1 and the Mini Countryman, with a 2,670 mm wheelbase, and was assembled at Regensburg. A plug in xDrive25e arrived in 2020, and production concluded on 11 October 2023. Its model years run from 2017 to 2023.
