By 2022 the X2 had been on sale for four years and was in its fifth year of production at Regensburg. The M Mesh Edition and the xDrive25e plug in hybrid remained in the range, and the car stayed in the BMW SUV line up between the X1 and the X3 while the second generation was being prepared for its reveal in October 2023. The F39 was a successful addition to the BMW range, selling well in Europe and elsewhere.
