The X1 was introduced to the United States in 2012, and the changes of the 2012 facelift were shown at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The X1 Powder Ride edition was released in November 2012 as an option for the xDrive28i and 35i models, based on the Concept K2 Powder Ride that had been shown earlier at the Los Angeles show in collaboration with K2 Sports. The X1 had by then been sold in Europe for about three years and in the United States for the first time.
