A set of changes took effect on the E84 X1 from the autumn of 2011, a model year update with revised equipment and engines. The X1 had not yet been introduced to the United States, where it would not go on sale until 2012, so the car was sold in Europe and other markets, in a range from the small sDrive18i to the powerful xDrive35i. The X1 therefore completed two years on sale before the facelift of the next year was shown.
