The first M6 was the M635CSi, a version of the E24 6 Series coupe that started the line in 1983 with the M88/3 twin cam straight six, a modified form of the engine from the M1. Cars with the catalyst fitted version of the engine were sold in Europe from summer 1987, and the E24 became a world car for the 1988 and 1989 model years with the same bumpers and aerodynamic parts everywhere. Production ended in 1989. Its model years run from 1983 to 1989.
