The E24 M635CSi and M6 went out of production in 1989. It was the second of two world car years, with the same bumpers and aerodynamic treatment on all markets. After this the nameplate stayed unused for sixteen years, a gap that lasted from 1990 to 2004, until the next car on the E63 and E64 6 Series platform arrived in 2005 to revive the badge. The first generation of the M6 therefore ran for seven model years, from 1983 to 1989.
