The engine of the 3.3 L was updated to fuel injection in June 1975, with a few more horsepower, making it the 3.3 Li. The long wheelbase cars were noted for sharp handling that contrasted with the large Mercedes cars of the time. By 1975 the E3 saloon had been in production for seven years, with about 190,000 saloons built in all, of which 71,804 were the US only Bavaria. The suffixes of the 3.3 Li stand for long wheelbase and fuel injection.
