Following the introduction of a 3.2 liter version of the engine in the 1976 BMW 633CSi, this slightly smaller engine also found its way into the 3.3 Li, a 3210 cubic centimeter unit with 197 PS that was used in 1976 and 1977. This was the last engine change of the E3, which was replaced by the first 7 Series in 1977 after nine years. The E9 coupes shared their engines with the E3 saloons. It was one of the last changes to the engine range.
