The Alpina B12 5.7 became available in 1992, based on the 850CSi with the S70 5.6 liter V12 bored out to 5.7 liters, as the most powerful version of the E31 line. The 850CSi was the high performance model of the 8 Series, offered only with a six speed manual gearbox, and it replaced the M8 that BMW had decided not to build. The 850CSi was thus the most powerful 8 Series and had a V12 engine of 5.6 liters.
