From 1997 BMW marketed an extended wheelbase limousine called the L7, and in late 1997 the E38 7 Series and E39 5 Series became the world's first cars available with side impact head airbags. In the Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, sixteen E38 cars were modified so that they could be driven from the back seat, with Pierce Brosnan appearing to steer by mobile phone. The L7 limousine was the longest of the three wheelbases.
