1957 BMW 600

Automobiles

Production of the 600 began in August 1957, as BMW's first postwar four seat economy car, partly based on the two seat Isetta. The company wanted to widen its model range without the money for an all new design, so it stretched the Isetta, adding a door on the right side for access to the rear seats and a flat twin engine of 19.5 horsepower mounted behind the rear wheels, driving through a four speed manual gearbox.
