The 2022 MDX was the first of the fourth generation, revealed as a prototype in October 2020, in bulk production from January 12, 2021 and on sale on February 2. It had a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3 inch infotainment screen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, with a 3.5 litre V6 and 10-speed transmission. The Type-S trim followed on December 23 with a turbocharged 3.0 litre V6, and the IIHS gave the 2022 MDX a Top Safety Pick Plus.
