The Type R returned for the 2000 model year after a gap in 1999, again as a liftback only, with the same 195 horsepower engine and the stripped, lightweight specification. Air conditioning was a dealer-installed option on it. The Japanese Type R received its own final revision this year, with a revised intake cam, and a Type Rx trim with extra equipment followed in mid-2000. The regular range continued below it, with the LS, GS and GS-R trims, all built on the same body as the liftback and sedan introduced for 1994.
