Volvo S60

Automobiles

The Volvo S60 is a compact executive car that Volvo Cars has made since 2000 in three generations, introduced as the successor to the Volvo S70. The first generation, released in 2000 for the 2001 model year, was built on the P2 platform shared with the S80, V70, XC70 and finally the XC90, drew styling cues from the Volvo ECC concept car and the S80, and was aimed in Europe at the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Alfa Romeo 156; its estate counterpart is the V70, and the high-performance S60 R followed in 2002. On 14 and 15 October 2000 a first-generation S60 T5 prepared by Volvo and Prodrive broke 18 British land speed records at the Millbrook Proving Ground, averaging 217 kilometres per hour over 24 hours. The second generation began production at Ghent in Belgium on 17 May 2010, and the third, introduced in 2018, became the first Volvo built in the United States, at Ridgeville, South Carolina. Production for North America and Europe ended in 2024 while production in China continued.
